How do I know if my Sonos arc is playing Atmos?
Arc must be connected to your TV’s HDMI-ARC input to play Dolby Atmos content. Why am I not getting Dolby Atmos on my Sonos arc?
Sonos Arc and Beam (Gen 2) must be connected to HDMI ARC or HDMI eARC to play any Dolby Atmos content. Not all TVs have HDMI ARC or HDMI eARC, so check your TV’s user manual to see which HDMI connections you have.

When the Sound Bar is connected to a TV that is not compatible with HDMI (eARC), you can only play Dolby Atmos format content output from a playback device, such as Blu-ray Disc Player. You will not be able to play Dolby Atoms format content output from the TV.

You don’t need eARC for Dolby Atmos. Dolby Atmos works over regular ARC with any compatible TV and sound system only when encoded through Dolby Digital Plus. eARC is backward-compatible, so it’ll still work with any ARC device. Dolby Atmos encoded through Dolby TrueHD only works over eARC.

How many speakers do you need for Atmos?
The bare minimum for Dolby Atmos is a 5.1. 2 system. This means you have five speakers around the room, one subwoofer, and two height speakers. If you currently have a 7.1 system, you can just take two of those surround speakers and mount them to the ceiling.
