Almost all common normal fans today pull from 0.1 to 0.25 A max, so three fans can be done on one header. IF you plan more than that, you need to find out for sure the max current spec for them and add them up – do not exceed 1 A. The earliest fan type that had lights in them are called LED fans.
Can you connect 4 fans to header?
Most motherboard headers will provide 1 A, so do not connect more than 4 fans to one header.
How many fan headers do you need?
This depends on the motherboard in your computer. Most motherboards are have at least two connectors. One will be used for the processor, while the second is used for a case fan. High-end motherboards may support six fans or more.
How much power does a fan header support?
A fan header will supply aprox 0.8-1.2 A, which is usually sufficient topower 2 fans with a little headroom.
Can you plug a 4 pin fan into a 3 pin header?
Please note that 4-pin fans can also be connected to your mainboard’s 3-pin fan headers though. When connected to 3-pin fan headers, the fan will run at full speed (unless the mainboard supports voltage based speed control).
How many fan splitters can I use?
So there’s a “rule of thumb”: you can connect up to TWO fans (normal ones) to any mobo fan header, but NOT MORE. That is why a Y-splitter with only two outputs can work. Although you can buy splitters with more than two output connectors, DO NOT use them!
How do I put multiple fans on one header?
How To Add Extra Fan Headers To Your PC Build
How many PC fans can I daisy chain?
Since the F12 PWM PST fans draw 0.24 A maximum, you would not want to chain more than 4 fans from a single header. (If your header provides more amperage, e.g. up to 2 A, you could chain more, but be absolutely sure what the rating is before you do.)
Can you connect two fans one header?
Yes it is. I have 3 fans and 1 pump in 1 Motherboard 4 pin fan header.
How do I power multiple case fans?
How to Connect Multiple Case Fans
How many fans should a gaming PC have?
A gaming PC will need at least three case fans to properly regulate heat and keep the components cool. At the minimum, two case fans are needed for optimal cooling, and ideally three. An exhaust fan should be placed on the back panel, while an intake fan should be placed on the front panel.
Where do 3 pin fan connectors go?
3-pin fans will plug directly into a 4-pin motherboard header without any additional adapters. 3-pin fans still have an RPM sensor on them, and most mainboards can still vary their speed based on temperature. 3-pin fans use simple voltage control for adjust the fan speed.
How many case fans can a motherboard support?
Case fans can be connected to the two chassis fan headers and the PSU fan too if you want to. Each header can split and power at least two or three modern fans.
How many amps can a motherboard fan header handle?
The header doesn’t care if there is one fan drawing power or 5! As long as they don’t draw more than 1A together. It is generally between 1amp to 1.3 amps. You can indeed connect multiple fans to a single header with a splitter but the splitter should only connect one of the yellow speed signal lines from a fan.
Can 3 pin fans be PWM?
Pulse width modulation (PWM) fans are DC fans with an extra wire for PWM. PWM fans are 4-pin fans where the fourth wire sends a PWM signal to the fan motor. The PWM signal is the control input of the PWM fan.PWM Fans or 4-Pin Fans.
|DC Fan||PWM Fan|
|3-pin fan||4-pin fan|
|Voltage control||PWM control|
Can I use a PWM fan without PWM?
If no PWM signal is present, almost all fans will work on 100% of power, while most pumps used in water cooling will operate at some medium speed. Meaning, if you want to run the pump on full power, you need to hook it up to a PWM signal that is set on 100% duty cycle.
Can you control fan speed with 3 pin?
The speed of BOTH 3-pin and 4-pin fans can be controlled, but the method is different for the two types. For 3-pin fans, the connections to it are Ground to Pin #1, +VDC (varying) to Pin #2, and Speed signal on Pin #3.
Is it okay to split fan headers?
Yes, you can. 3-pin fans are 100% compatible with 4-pin headers, and generally speaking the 4-pin header is keyed so as not to damage the motherboard or fan if a 3-pin fan is incorrectly connected. Do keep in mind, though, that you might loose fan speed control with that setup.
Does fan splitter reduce speed?
No, they will all run the same speed.
Are fan splitters okay?
You will be safe using a fan splitter as long as you the fans you are connecting does not draw more current than the motherboard header provides.
How many fan headers does my motherboard have?
You will typically see a 4-pin fan header next to your CPU and 3-pin fan headers everywhere else. Bear in mind that there are many different layouts and designs in the world of motherboards, so you may see multiple 4-pin fan headers on the motherboard.
Can I connect AIO pump to CPU fan header?
Can you plug an AIO pump into a fan header? Yes. It will work perfectly fine.
Can you connect fans to PSU?
There are two common ways fans connect directly to a power supply. Either using a standard 4 pin power connector from the power supply, or by using an adapter board that converts the standard power supply connector to a motherboard style pin header connector.
How many Arctic fans Can you daisy chain?
Arctic’s PWM case fans are a little different to normal PWM fans. This is thanks to the patented PST (PWM Sharing Technology). The PST feature allows up to five of these fans to be daisy chained together, meaning the motherboard can power and regulate all five fans from one PWM fan header from the motherboard.
Can you daisy chain NZXT fans?
All of our NZXT RGB Accessories can be daisy-chained with each other to improve the cable management of your build. This is made possible through connection cables that go between many different NZXTproducts.

How do I connect two CPU fans to my motherboard?
When using 2 fans, please connect one of the fans to the CPU-Fan header and the second fan to one of the Case-Fan headers of your mainboard. Alternatively, you can also use a 3-pin Y-cable in order to run both fans via the CPU-Fan header. Such cables are available in specialised retail stores.
Do fans need to be connected to motherboard?
If you want to have your mobo measure the speeds of your case fans, you must plug them into the mobo ports so that the Speed Pulse signals from the fan motors can be sent back to the mobo on Pin 3 of each port. But interestingly, CONTROL of fan speed does NOT link to this signal.
